INTRODUCTION

To my Rizal classes:

In the beginning of the semester I mentioned that it is impossible for students to fail in my class using my new grading system. This I am terribly mistaken and I stand corrected by the circumstances presented before my eyes. If you did not take me seriously when I lectured you on the failure of our education system, I think your grades will support my arguments. This is not to say that you, my students, are the most terrible of all the classes I taught, I am merely remarking as to the effect of too much mass poisoning coming from society itself. I will repeat what I told you before: if you will not educate yourself, then do not expect that you will become educated ladies and gentlemen.

To my England classes:

History can be told in so many manners. I hope you understood that my class had two components: one is the reading component which you have to undertake yourself; and two, the analysis component which I hopefully sufficiently given to you—that is, if you were not able to sleep through the long hours of lecture. History seems inherently boring and only those who can survive the boredom will become worthy historians. The final exam I gave was a simple measurement of what you know of English history, the term paper is the measure of your historical capacity. If you failed the term paper, consider remolding yourself.

GRADING SYSTEMS

For a review of the grading system in the Rizal class, here are its elements:

15% - Attendance and Discipline: 10 points per meeting, 3 points deduction for

being late or being excused, arbitrary points deduction for disciplinary problems

10% - Treasure Hunt bonus if considerable amount of work is manifested through

the paper. Works of indolence are given half the percentage only.

10% - Reaction paper on the film V for Vendetta.

20% - First Exam; including the bonus supplementary exam

20% - Second Exam

25% - Comprehensive Exam

For a review of the grading system in the Modern England class, here are its elements:

10% - Attendance and Discipline: 20 points per meeting, 13 points deduction for being

late or being excused, arbitrary points deduction for disciplinary problems

15% - Written Report

10% - Oral Report

5% - Microsoft® PowerPoint Presentation based on the report

5% - Annotated Bibliography

15% - Term Paper

5% - Reaction Paper on the film To Kill A King

10% - Take Home Exams

25% - Comprehensive Exam

For the student taking online requirements in the Modern England class:

20% - Written Report on the Role of England/Britain the Great War

25% - Term Paper

20% - Book Review (Minimum of 1)

15% - Microsoft® PowerPoint Presentation based on the report

20% - Comprehensive Exam: Historical Essay
